Gildore Martin Robillard passed away peacefully October 7, 2015 in his 77th year after fighting hard against a lengthy and challenging battle of many illnesses that attacked his wellbeing on every front. That’s what happens to champions – they carry the weight of the world on their own shoulders and eventually, it takes its toll and they get battle weary.
Like a roasted marshmallow, his tender, soft, gooey heart was encased in an often crusty and sometimes gruff coating – his own personal method of self-preservation against the onslaught of injustices that many face and that he was ever aware of and fought against.
Anyone who knew Gil, knew he was a champion for the underdog – literally and figuratively. He had no biological children, but had many who were treated as one – nieces who were swept away on horseback and dune buggy adventures, or that needed a job; nephews who lived with him for a time, or needed yardwork done, or a tractor fixed; or neighbourhood kids who would watch movies or play games at his store. He loved them all. It didn’t end there – he loved animals and had a soft spot for strays or any being that he perceived as needing help – whether that was rescuing a pound dog; kittens found in a factory; squirrels at his back door; chipmunks in his basement; co-workers who were being bullied – the list is endless. He couldn’t stand to see others suffer in any way, so he used everything he was blessed with to bless others.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Lucy (Lucille nee Larmand) who loved him with all that she had and more; by his siblings Yvette Desroches (Venard), Rita Robitaille (Robert), Georgette Mailloux (Bernard) and Gerald Robillard (Pauline); many nieces and nephews; numerous friends; and the countless people he touched with his life. He will be remembered with deep affection.
