<div itemprop="description">It is with great sadness that the Belcourt family announces the death of Th&eacute;r&egrave;se Belcourt. She died on October 2nd 2015 at the age of 88 years in Welland Ontario after a long period of decline. She is predeceased by her siblings Lorette, Jeanne, Genevi&egrave;ve, Rita, C&eacute;lestin, Augustin, Lionel, Bernard, Raymond, Jean and Claude. She is survived by her brothers Marc (Pat), L&eacute;onard (Claire) and G&eacute;rald Belcourt, her sister Bernadette (Jean-Paul) Lemay and her sisters-in-law Audrey (Claude) Belcourt and Lorraine (Raymond) Press.<br />Th&eacute;r&egrave;se was born January 7th 1927 in Perkinsfield Ontario, the 7th of 16 children of Arthur and Berthe Belcourt. She completed teacher&rsquo;s college in 1947 and received a B.A. from McMaster University in 1972. She taught in many villages and towns in Northern Ontario including in one to three room schoolhouses. She eventually found work in Welland where she taught for 9 years, followed by a return to her native village where she then taught in Penetanguishene for 6 years. She spent her next 7years as principal and teacher in Perkinsfield at the small village school until her retirement in 1982. Her retirement was spent travelling the world, gardening, knitting, swimming, bowling and curling. She loved both curling and bowling and her rehabilitation post broken hip was in great part motivated by her desire to continue these activities ! She volunteered many hours of her time to her local parish of St. Patrick and with the daughters of Isabella. Th&eacute;r&egrave;se was a favourite aunt to many of her 53 nieces and nephews and countless great nieces and nephews. She was a cheerful loving presence in our lives. Visitation will be held at Penetanguishene Funeral Home, 155 Main Street on Sunday, October 4th, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Vigil prayers will be said in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated in Saint Patrick Church Tiny (Perkinsfield) Monday, October 5th at 11 a.m. followed by the burial in Saint Patrick cemetery.
